Want to know more?
What is the process?
- At the start of your scheduled session, we sit & discuss your music goals and your thoughts about the songs you have chosen to record.
- I instruct you on several vocal warmup techniques that will open your face & throat for optimum singing strength and clarity.
- I send you to a private room for 10 to 15 minutes of vocal warmups and stretching while I set up the karaoke track(s) on my system.
- I quickly record you singing the song for a rough track to acquaint me to your style and delivery.
- I give you my initial observations and suggestions as we prepare to record multiple takes of the song.
* At this point a 50% payment is due for us to start the recording process.
- You go back to the warmup room for 5 minutes of specialized final vocal warmup exercises.
- I set you up in the sound booth to begin your recording session.
- We record multiple takes of you singing the song, as well as re-singing critical segments to give me a pool of material to use when I get to the mixing & production phase of the project.
- Once, we complete the recording phase, I spend 10 to 20 minutes discussing my observation of your singing style, enunciation, breathing, strength and clarity & where you want to go with your voice & singing. Here, I make constructive suggestions for the evolution of your voice and singing goals.
* At this point, the recording session is complete.
Over the next few days:
- I will create a compilation of the best parts of all your vocal takes, tune the vocals for technical pitch accuracy and adjust the timing and volume to create a clean vocal track to work with.
- I make a series of subtle enhancements, frequency adjustments, add selective Fx and carefully mix your vocal with the karaoke music.
- I run several test burns to CD and listen to the mix on multiple players (Walkman, Car stereo, etc.) to analyze the mix for versatility between players.
- When I feel that all is satisfactory, final CDs are burned and you are notified to come by the studio to listen to the final product, make final payment and receive your 2 CD masters.
- If this is a multi-song project, all songs are taken to this level, then the album is Mastered, songs placed in a specific order (with your email approval of the song order) and the final product is burned to 2 master CDs as described above.
* At this point the project is considered complete. The work files are backed up for your future project use.
What is Mastering?
Mastering involves setting a common level for the songs, adjusting before/after silence, fade ins/outs of all the songs in your project. Mastering, also, involves listening for and adjusting tonal characteristics of each song to bring out the "punch" and "warmth" in each song. Lastly, Mastering puts the song in a play order that feels like the mood and purpose of the album flows smoothly from the 'greeting' of the opening song to the 'closure' of the final song.
What do I get when the project is complete?
-
You get the final mix burned to two CD masters (with our printed label) ready to play in your favorite CD player. I recommend you store one in a safe place and the other master to burn your own copies from.
- You get a CD with high quality MP3 files of your project and pictures and video of your recording session taken by the recording engineer.
- You get final vocal coaching comments when you come by the studio to pick up the final CDs and make your final payment.
How can I do a multi-song album if I can only afford a couple songs at a time?
You may want to record your songs over a period of time to spread out the cost of the project. Just record the songs you want at the standard per song rate. When you have recorded all the songs for your project and are ready to have your album produced, there will be a one-time fee of $75 per album to master the songs and create the final CDs and MP3 files for you. Please note, this is for karaoke produced songs only.
Does the studio print labels on the CDs?
Your two master CDs will be printed with a custom label from my studio which lists the Artist and the normal information printed on standard CDs. Custom labels can be graphically designed and additional copies printed at a modest additional charge.
Is a deposit required & when are payments due for this project?
A $50 deposit is required to reserve a recording session date. The deposit will be applied to the project cost or refunded in full if written notice of cancellation of the session occurs at least 48 hours in advance. Payment of 50% of estimated project cost is due at the beginning of the recording session. The Final Payment is due when you come by to pick up your final CD masters and get final comments on your voice training.
